Wired Home

I went on a tour of the Wired Home in LA recently, currently on the market for a cool $4 million. The house is designed by Ray Kappe who has been doing some really exciting work with the Living Homes folks. I like his style - modernism with warmth. Fly ash concrete floors combined with cedar ceilings, bring a rich inviting feel to this house, despite being very contemporary.

However the layout of this house didn't work so well for me. (You can download the floor plans here). All the bedrooms are on the ground floor and you walk up a central staircase to get to the living/kitchen/dining areas on the second floor. This makes perfect sense given the location of the lot, taking advantage of the wonderful view over the hills. The layout of the second floor is wonderfully airy and open. The first floor loses out though. It felt hyper-programmed to me, with lots of corridors, corners and tight spaces. Perhaps that doesn't matter so much for bedrooms... but I didn't love the feel.

Wired mag have done a great job of the website, you can browse by category or room, and find out where to buy many of the products from the home. The kid's bedroom (below) I loved. Great wallpaper - although of course I can't find that listed!!
